About TAAP

The Tufts Alumni Admissions Program (TAAP) has grown from a handful of alumni volunteers in 1959 to a national and international program of over 2,500 current alumni who volunteer to assist their alma mater in its effort to bring the best and brightest students to the Hill. Members of TAAP are valuable for both their knowledge of the University and the example they set as successful graduates of Tufts.

Alumni contact with prospective students has become increasingly effective in the admissions process. Beyond contacting and interviewing students, members of the TAAP committees represent Tufts at local college nights, coordinate and attend fall student/parent meetings for prospective students, and arrange local receptions for admitted candidates to encourage enrollment. All of these functions of TAAP make it an invaluable arm of the undergraduate admissions effort.

Alumni participating in the Tufts Alumni Admissions Program are organized in local or regional committees. These committees are led by a local committee chairperson. Tufts Alumni Admissions Program members have basic, current information about Tufts  and the admissions process. This information is provided  through the TAAP Handbook, the quarterly TAAP news-        Lee Coffin, Dean of Admissions
letter and Tufts Bulletin for prospective students. The
admissions staff and Tufts Alumni Admissions Program committee chairpersons offer training and support to the membership.

Each year, Tufts alumni representatives provide service to the admissions process by serving in many of the activites listed below. These programs include:

  • Interviews: In some instances, the TAAP interview serves as the applicant's only opportunity to have a personal meeting with a University representative during the application process.
  • College nights: Usually held by local area high schools, these programs are designed to inform students and parents about colleges and college options.
  • Fall Student and Parent Meetings: Prospective students and their parents are invited to meet for an evening with a Tufts admissions officer and TAAP committee members to learn more about the University and the admissions process.
  • Spring Receptions for Admitted Students: University representatives join members of the local TAAP committee in recognizing the ability and talents of admitted students and encouraging enrollment by organizing receptions in many states and countries.
  • Contacting Inquiries: In areas where knowledge of Tufts is limited, members may call students who have indicated their interest in the University through contacting the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • National Calling Days: During the early days of April, local area TAAP members call accepted students whom they have interviewed to offer congratulations and encourage matriculation to Tufts.

Members of the Tufts Alumni Admissions Program committees serve in many capacities for the University. We hope that you will consider joining this vibrant group of indivduals in providing ongoing assistance with the admissions efforts.
